EMMA VAN DEN BOK COUNSELLING

Here for you

I believe that everyone benefits from having someone to support them and to help them understand themselves better. I am here to help you respond in the best possible ways to whatever dilemmas or concerns you may have. Resolving or managing these issues, finding ways to enhance your wellbeing, living a life that reflects your most cherished values and supports your aspirations... is the business of counselling. I offer a safe, confidential and nonjudgmental environment in which you will fully be able to express and explore your concerns and find those new pathways. I will listen deeply, be curious and compassionate, sometimes challenge, point to possibilities, or offer information and tools that might help... these are some of the ways that can help bring about the insight, inspiration and commitment that lead to your best life. Whatever challenges you may be facing or whatever support you may need, I am here to  help. Are you ready?

MY STORY

Hello, my name is Emma and I'm a qualified counsellor with a Master of Counselling degree. I also hold bachelor degrees in Law and Criminology. I started my journey into counselling after experiencing my own personal struggles, and realising the incredible value of having a professional that can support and and listen. I aim to provide a safe and confidential space where clients feel heard, understood and empowered to make meaningful changes in their lives.  My background as a lawyer in Sydney, and then in teaching yoga, meditation and mindfulness in Bali has also informed my understanding of and approach to counselling. I am very passionate about the mental health and well being of adults and children, and offer a warm, empathetic and non-judgmental presence to help clients navigate their concerns and reach their personal goals. As a member of the Australian Counselling Association (ACA) I comply with the ACA Code of Ethics and Practice, undertake ongoing professional development and have Clinical Supervision.

COUNSELLING FOR KIDS & TEENS

If we can help people when they are young, imagine how much less struggle there would be in adulthood

Children

I have always been successful in establishing rapport and developing trust with children, and I am passionate about helping them with their challenges. My experience of working with primary school-aged children in a counselling setting, working at an international school abroad with children from diverse backgrounds, and volunteering with local children in Bali, has helped me develop a holistic and adaptable approach. From worries and diagnoses, to friendship and family problems, I offer a range of therapeutic techniques, including play therapy, art therapy, and talk therapy, to help children build resilience and make sense of their world. Emotional support is crucial during childhood and I’m here to provide that in a caring, safe environment.

Teenagers

Intense emotions, changing bodies, questions around identity, sexuality, concerns about their place in their social world, the perils of social media, family and school stresses... The teen years can be especially challenging. I offer a safe and supportive environment where I can connect with teens at their level, and in which they can navigate these issues. My experience working with teens has me conclude that the skills, self awareness and healthy self-esteem that young people can develop in counselling will serve them throughout their lives.

COUNSELLING FOR ADULTS

The decision to come to counselling can be a difficult one.  It generally means that there are things in your life that are not working, or that you wish were different, and that you are ready to take steps to do something about that. My aim is to provide an environment where you can feel at ease to explore these matters. I have a range of modalities, skills and tools that allow me to tailor my approach to your unique needs. My approach is always collaborative, working together to give full expression to your inner world, to make sense of your experience, gain insight and understanding, feel heard, explore, experiment, find wisdom and inspiration, develop skills and tools... and make real  changes. Contacting me can take you one step closer to that happier and healthier life you are no doubt seeking.
